In a September 22, 2026 post co-authored by Grow with Google founder Lisa Gevelber and ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Google announced 100,000 certificate scholarships for hands-on AI and digital skills training across more than 80 countries, delivered through local governments and the ITU-UNICEF Giga initiative. The scholarships are part of the AI Skills Coalition under ITU's AI for Good program, which brings together governments, industry, academia, UN bodies and civil society, and complement a catalogue of more than 200 courses. ITU estimates 1.2 billion people still need basic digital-skills training and 311 million need above-basic training. Google cites Ipsos research finding hands-on training makes people up to four times more likely to become confident with AI. Target groups include students, teachers, job seekers, entrepreneurs, small-business owners and civil servants; the training needs no technical background and partners will track activation, completion and certificates earned.
